About the Book

This collection of critical essays and investigative reports examines virtually every area of fringe-science and the paranormal from a refreshingly scientific and clear-minded view point. The contributors are noted scientists, philosophers, psychologists and writers who are determined to separate sense from nonsense and fact from fiction in an area notorious for misinformation, misperception, self-delusion and wishful thinking. With logical reasoning and a strict adherence to veritable facts, the authors explore a variety of popular pseudoscientific claims, including those of astrology, ESP, psychic detectives, UFOs, creationism, the Shroud of Turin and palmistry, as well as the implications of paranormal beliefs for science and science education. The chapters originally appeared in the Skeptical Inquirer, a unique journal devoted to the critical examination of fringe-science and paranormal claims.
